A new report by TechCabal ranks Ibadan among Nigeria's fastest growing technology ecosystems, with over 200 startups registered in the city in the past year.
Ibadan has emerged as one of Nigeria's most dynamic technology ecosystems, according to a comprehensive new report published by leading African tech publication TechCabal.
The report, which surveyed startup activity across 15 Nigerian cities, found that Ibadan registered over 200 new technology ventures in the past 12 months alone — a 67% increase from the previous year.
The growth is being attributed to several factors, including the University of Ibadan's expanding computer science and engineering programs, improving infrastructure, and a burgeoning community of entrepreneurs drawn by lower operating costs compared to Lagos and Abuja.
Notable Ibadan-based startups featured in the report include EdTech platform SchoolRun, agricultural technology company FarmDirect, and fintech solution QuickPay NG.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, commenting on the findings, pledged to establish a dedicated innovation hub in the city: "Ibadan has the talent, the history, and the infrastructure to become Nigeria's Silicon Valley equivalent."
